“There are some secrets which do not permit themselves to be told.”
– Edgar Allan Poe, “The Man of the Crowd”
OLD NEWS is the story of how a young and hungry, though slightly dis-graced, news journalist goes on a quest to find the truth about the thirty-year unsolved mystery surrounding a black man’s death in the sixties. In the process, he reveals much. Through his investiga-tion the journalist uncovers the rich and complex inner world of a brilliant man who was taken from the world too soon. Also, this endeavor uncovers the dark truth about the victim’s manipulative killer. Through many plot twists we see a story of brotherly love, betrayal, forgiveness, hope, and the timeless search for justice.
OLD NEWS is the fictional story set in the 1960s and 1990s of how a young African-American man “killed” himself in a small town’s General Store. The book considers what was “old” news to several different groups of people but which is actually “new” news even today.
