“The way to right wrongs is to shine the light of truth upon them.” ~ Ida B. Wells-Barnett
No one else that night saw the man running, stumbling through a drenching rainstorm. No one heard the mud splashing as he fled through cornfields on his way into town. No one was there to see if he was running from someone or from himself. No one was there to see how the dim light cut white lines over his dark face as he struggled up the steps to the old store and fumbled desperately for the spare key. No one in town saw as he entered and the door closed behind him one last time. No one knew what transpired in those eternal minutes between the click of the lock and the flash of yellow light that announced the bullet cutting through the dark.
